A Prayer Group for Children

Uniting Children in Prayer Across the World

in Schools, Churches, Parishes, and Orphanages

What is the Children’s Rosary?

What is the Children’s Rosary?

The Children’s Rosary is a lay prayer group movement for children. It is an effort to begin

in parishes Rosary prayer groups composed of children and led by children. The target

age of the children for these prayer groups is between 4 and 14 years old. Bernadette

of Lourdes and the children of Fatima were all within this age range. However, there is

flexibility at each end of the range, and children should never be turned away if they

have a desire to be part of a prayer group.

Of special note are children with disabilities who may be older in age but have a special

place in the Children’s Rosary. These children should be encouraged to be a part of

this prayer movement. Adults are always welcome and encouraged to come to the

Children’s Rosary. These individuals are the special “guardian angels” of this movement.

How it Began: The Children’s Rosary began out of love for Our Lady and her

Son, Jesus. It was born out of a call for help; the request for help came from our

priest who saw his Parish suffering a financial crisis and worried for its future

existence. In prayerful reflection on this call for help an inspiration came to

bring our children before Our Lady and Our Lord in the prayer of the Rosary, for

we know how strong and dear the prayers of children are, and how all heaven

delights in them.

The first meeting of the Children’s Rosary was on April 10, 2011. It was the

Sunday before Palm Sunday that year. A group of children knelt before a

statue of Our Lady and prayed as a group for our parish and the intentions of

Our Lady. The weekend of the first Children’s Rosary had a record collection

surpassed only by Easter and Christmas for the remainder of the year. There

was nothing special about that weekend except for a small group of children

who knelt in prayer of the Holy Rosary.

The Children’s Rosary has been dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and

Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is therefore under the protection and guidance of

Christ and His Mother.

The Children’s Rosary which once began in one Parish has now grown and

by the grace of God will continue to grow so that Children’s Rosary groups

will exist in parishes across the globe. The Children’s Rosary is now in over 40

countries throughout the world.

Start a Children’s Rosary prayer group.

If there isn’t a Children’s Rosary near you,

consider starting one in your local school, Church,

or Parish. Our Lady has continued to show us through

the apparitions in Lourdes and Fatima that she is calling our

children to prayer, and in a special way, the Rosary.

BEGIN A CHILDREN’S ROSARY

IN YOUR SCHOOL

While the Children's Rosary began as a prayer group

movement in parishes, we have extended this to

schools and orphanages. The model is very simple.

Choose a regular time for the children to come

together to pray. We have seen schools easily fold this

into their school day weekly, monthly or even daily.

An example of this is in Birmingham, Alabama, USA at St. Francis Xavier School

where the children meet every Friday at 2:30 PM. Each class is its own prayer

group. Yet the school is also praying as a whole. An area is set up with an image of

Mary. The children are invited to kneel around her during the Rosary. The children

take turns leading the prayers. After each decade, a child is asked to place a flower

at the foot of Our Lady while the teacher asks for the fruit of that mystery. The

children at St. Francis Xavier have made paper flowers. Our parish-based groups

often use fresh flowers.

Testimonials from Principal Wright,

St Francis Xavier School:

Principal Wright was able to share some of the

benefits he saw since forming a Children's Rosary

in his school.

In regard to the peace, Principal Wright has seen throughout the school, he goes on

to say, “I believe the Children’s Rosary is one of the most effective anti-bullying

efforts one can do in a school.”

Principal Wright liked having the children of his school all meet at the same time to

pray each week. He explained, "I feel it is very important to have the children all

praying at the same time in the classrooms. They are little prayer groups and

yet one unified voice together."

"One of the things I very much like about the Children’s Rosary is that it is child

led. This is important because the children take the leadership role. When they

go home, they are comfortable leading a Rosary and can lead their family in

prayer."

"When you commit to a weekly Children's Rosary during the school day, you are

inviting the Blessed Mother into the life of your school. She will not fail to gently

and powerfully move your school towards a greater devotion to her Son."

Steps to Begin a Children’s

Steps to Begin a Children’s

Rosary in Your Parish

Rosary in Your Parish

1. Obtain permission from your Priest

to begin a Children’s Rosary group.

2. Choose a location (usually in a church

or parish center, but groups cannot meet in

private homes).

3. Choose a regular meeting time

(monthly, or if interest exists, weekly or daily).

4. Invite a group of families and

children to your first Children’s Rosary

and consider putting a notice in your

Church bulletin.

Guidelines for Your First Children’s Rosary

5. Register your Children’s Rosary with us on our website or by email:

blythe@ChildrensRosary.org or by mail at Children’s Rosary, P.O. Box 271743,

West Hartford, CT 06127, USA (In this way we will have a central list of all Children’s Rosary

groups formed).

1. Begin by Consecrating your new

group to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

and Immaculate Heart of Mary (both

Consecration Prayers on our website).

2. Invite the children to kneel together

before a statue of Our Lady, in front of

those gathered.

3. In turns have a child stand and lead a

decade of the Rosary.

4. The child should say the first part

of each prayer, and the group say the

latter part.

5. An optional addition is the use of

flowers (roses or any other flower). This is

particularly nice for smaller children not

able to lead or children with disabilities

preventing them from leading. At the

end of each decade, a child is asked to

place a flower at the foot of a statue of

Mary if available.

6. Consider having a prayer book with

illustrations of the mysteries of the

Rosary for the children to use during

prayer. The Children’s Rosary book was

designed for this purpose.

7. Consider having a petition box.

The children can decorate the box if

desired, and it can be placed in front of

the children while they are saying their

monthly Rosary.

If the group desires, and is given

permission from the priest, the box can

be left out for members of the parish to

place petitions in all month.

Child Consecration

Child Consecration: To Jesus through Mary—Following in the Spirit

of St. Thérèse, the Little Flower is a 33-day journey for groups, parishes,

families, children, schools, homeschool groups, and adults.

This Consecration to Jesus through Mary is the request we make to Mary

to bring a soul entrusted to her under her mantle of protection. The soul

brings all it has; past, present, and future, to be placed at the disposal of

Mary. In turn Our Lady takes the soul by the hand and guides it to its true

home in Heaven while cultivating a multitude of fruits. More info at ChildConsecration.com

“This Consecration has been one of the loveliest things of my priesthood. There is

something of Heaven about this Consecration and I pray many individuals and

families may consider taking up this book. I also humbly invite Shepherds to consider

leading their flock in this Consecration. A great harvest lies ahead.”

–Bishop John Keenan of Paisley, Scotland

A Soul Prepared through Sufering

This book is a 40-day retreat. It is for those in the trenches of suffering and

for those yet to be put to the test, for it prepares people to understand that

suffering shared by a loving God works in ways nothing else can.

“This book written by Dr. Blythe Kaufman is very important for our

age when many Christians see redemptive suffering as foreign to

human existence . . . This book is a must-read. I recommend it for all

Christians and non-Christians alike. It is very important for overall spiritual growth.”

–Most Rev. Oliver Dashe Doeme, Bishop of Maiduguri, Nigeria
