WDLT Employee Handbook

HOURS OF WORK

Policy Scope

All employees work based on the needs of the business and those we serve during

our agency operating hours, which are Sunday, 12:00 am – Saturday, 11:59 pm.

Policy and Policy Definitions

Our staffing needs are determined by the services we are contracted to provide, and

we schedule staff accordingly to meet these requirements/staffing levels. Employees

must adhere to their assigned schedules and hours of work.

Essential Staff/Worker

Employees providing essential services at our agency, including but not limited to

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Program Managers, etc., are deemed Essential

Staff/Workers and are required to work during business closures and are not

allowed to leave their shift until their replacement arrives or they receive approval

from a manager (either reporting manager or on-call manager).

Essential Staff/Workers working direct care (DSP shifts), in addition to the

provisions outlined in the Essential Worker policy and above, are required to:

·Overnight (3rd) Shift – DSPs working overnight (3rd) shift are required to remain

awake and focused on their job responsibilities. Our agency does not offer any shift

where DSPs are permitted to sleep.

·Emergency Room (ER) / Hospital – DSPs are required to stay at the ER / hospital

while an Individual(s) is receiving care, until the Individual(s) is either admitted or

discharged. If a DSPs shift is ending and the Individual(s) are still at the ER

/hospital, the DSP is to remain at the ER / hospital until their replacement /relief

staff arrives to relieve them unless otherwise instructed by a manager, (either

reporting manager or on-call manager).

Staffing Levels

Staffing levels for all departments are determined by business need and State of CT

funding. All departments/programs operate with staffing levels that meet the needs

of the business and ensure the health and safety needs of those we provide services.
