MEDICATION CERTIFICATION (MED CERT)

Med-Certification (Med-Cert) Requirement

All Shift Coordinator and Program Manager level positions must become fully med-

certified within six (6) months of hire or promotion.

All full-time and part-time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) must become fully

med-certified within six (6) months of beginning the med-certification process. The

selection of DSPs to begin the med-certification process will be based on agency and

program needs.

Full med-certification includes all of the following:

Completing the State DDS Med-Certification course

Passing the med-certification exam

Receiving a valid DDS med-certification card

Completing an in-residence pass and pour with an agency nurse (RN).

Med-Certification Process

Employees must complete each step of the med-certification process accurately and

on time. This includes, but is not limited to:

Accurately completing and submitting the initial med-cert form to the

designated person

Registering online for a CT Train account, and providing the CT Train ID to the

med-cert coordinator promptly

Responding to all communications (emails, calls, texts, etc.) within 24-business

hours

Attending all required med-cert classes as scheduled, on-time and for the entire

class

Attending and passing the med-cert exam, on-time and with all required

information and equipment

Completing the required in-residence pass and pour with an agency nurse (RN)

Missing a step in this process is considered a “No Action” occurrence and may result

in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Failure to complete the

process accurately and on time may also result in disciplinary action, up to and

including termination.
