AIRBORNE ILLNESS

POLICY SCOPE

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and procedures to prevent the

spread of airborne illnesses within our workplace. This policy applies to all

employees, visitors and contractors.

POLICY DEFINITIONS

This policy encompasses various airborne illnesses, including but not limited to

influenza, COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and common cold viruses.

These guidelines are based on current recommendations from the Centers for

Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Connecticut Departments of Public

Health (DPH), and Developmental Services (DDS) and will be regularly reviewed

and updated as necessary.

Both Managerial and non-managerial employees are responsible for the following:

Symptom Monitoring and Reporting:

We encourage employees to monitor themselves for symptoms of illness, such

as fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills,

fatigue, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.

Employees experiencing such symptoms should stay home and seek medical

advice if necessary.

Those experiencing symptoms of or have tested positive for a respiratory virus

including, but not limited to COVID-19, influenza or RSV should stay home

until they’ve been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours, or their

symptoms have been improving for 24 hours.

Employees who need to stay home, should notify their assigned manager

during core business hours which are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm,

outside observed company holidays, or as defined by the department. The On-

Call Manager should be notified outside of core business hours as stated above.

Absences lasting longer than 3 days should be referred to Human Resources by

either the employee or assigned manager.
