WDLT Employee Handbook

ATTENDANCE

2. Unexcused Absence / Call-Out – when an employee is absent from work

without having obtained approval prior to the absence. Please note, approval of

the leave, after the fact, does not prevent the absence from being considered

unexcused.

An unexcused absence occurs when any of the following conditions are not met:

a.A time-off request is not submitted correctly, through our company defined

process and required system (Paycom).

b.The time off request is not approved in advance of the absence.

c.The employee does not have sufficient accrued paid time off (PTO) to cover

the absence.

d.The absence is not covered by the Federal and/or State Family and Medical

Leave Act (FMLA, CFMLA), Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law, or other

approved leave provided as a reasonable accommodation under the

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or any other approved leave.

An unexcused absence counts as one (1) occurrence for the purposes of discipline

under this policy.

An absence of multiple consecutive scheduled days due to the same illness, injury or

other incident will be counted as one (1) occurrence for purposes of this policy.

Three (3) or More Consecutive Days of Absence

Employees with three (3) or more consecutive days of absences because of illness or

injury may be asked to give proof of physician’s care and a fitness for duty release

prior to returning to work.

Employees may take earned PTO for each day of absence if available.

Unexcused Absences / Calling Out for Scheduled Shifts and Picking Up Other

Shifts

If an employee calls out for a scheduled work shift, they are not permitted to pick

up another work shift within twenty-four (24) hours of the shift they called out.

For example, if an employee calls out for their scheduled shift on Monday from

3:00 pm – 12:00 am, they cannot pick up another shift until after Tuesday, 3:00

pm.
