letter from the president

Greetings, RMHA Members,

By the time you receive your magazine, the New

Year will be well upon us and 2025 planning and

activities will be in full swing for Rocky Mountain

Horse Association. As your newly elected

President, I want to take a minute to express my

thanks and excitement for this opportunity to

serve the members of this association. I appreciate

all the support shown to me by the membership

during the election process.

I come to this role in the footsteps of a long

line of amazingly dedicated and hard-working

Board members, committee volunteers, staf

and a passionate membership of Rocky lovers

from around the globe. I thank you all for your

commitment to this breed, and I am honored with

the opportunity to continue our work promoting

and preserving the future of the Rocky Mountain

Horse. My goal as President, frst and foremost

is the commitment to our 2025-2030 Strategic

Plan, developed to guide the association through

the continued growth and health of our breed,

while enhancing the experiences of our entire

membership.

For the past several years I have been an active

volunteer with RMHA, both as a Board member

and serving on many committees, including Rules,

Trail, Registration Advisory, and Strategic Planning.

Our committees are so important! This association

is fortunate to have an army of volunteers who

work diligently to achieve our many goals, keep

our show, trail, versatility, and who keep our youth

programs active and growing. All their hard work

is fueled by a wonderful passion for the Rocky

Mountain Horse.

Together, we can not only preserve, but grow

this breed! I hope each one of you will join this

efort. It will be the Rocky community through

collaborative support, communication and

positive engagement that will move this horse

forward and create a true legacy in the greater

equine world. I welcome your input and ideas,

which are crucial to our continued success as an

association. Volunteer! Your eforts will be so

appreciated.

Wishing you and your families a healthy, happy,

and prosperous 2025!

My best regards,

Jan Dunn RMHA President

office manager’s report

2024 was a productive year for the RMHA.

Membership was steady, horse shows were well

supported, and the Incentive Program exceeded

the goal of bringing in many new registrations so

that the RMHA can continue to track and promote

the breed. We saw a change in leadership and

towards the end of the year, highly engaged, new

committee members. We plan to see exciting

things from the Youth, Genetics, Publishing,

Marketing, Membership, Show Judges and

International Committees in 2025.

The Rules Committee fnalized their eforts in

revising the rules document to be divided into rules

and procedures which are posted currently on the

website.

The board had a productive strategic planning

meeting in March to discuss the next fve years’

strategic plan which was fnalized by the Strategic

Planning Committee to be approved by the board.

The Publications Committee worked hard to put

together two printed magazines in 2024. Members

answered the call to advertise in the second

magazine and provide articles which prompted

more pages than what we have printed in the last

few years for members to enjoy.

We saw increased participation in the Trail and

Versatility Programs under the eforts of the

volunteers who fostered and promoted the

programs. The Trail Committee created a treasure

hunt where participants had fun and posted about

their adventures on their Rockies.

Although the numbers were slightly down, the

2024 International Horse Show was a success.

We had most entries in the new online system

pre-entered. There was the availability of class

entries/results throughout the week. We were

also able to publish the judges’ cards online as the

show was taking place. The ISC worked hard to

enhance the decorations and championship feel

of the competition. The Show Judging Committee

piloted a fve-judge system where we used a

new scoring method to assist in the efciency of

reporting the judges’ results. We had new and

repeat champions attend. We look forward to even

more improvements and excitement for the 2025

International.

As we look forward to the new year, we thank

the members and volunteers for their continued

support and participation. We wish everyone a

prosperous 2025.
