UNDER 9 AQUA CAPS
Age Managers: Kate Crisp, Justine Stynes, Victoria Turner, James
Rogers, Mark Greenwood, David Thanisch and Col Manners
The Under 9’s had a spectacular Nippers season. We had a large
group who made the big jump from wading to swimming this year.
Not only this, we saw the group advance their skill on boards, with
many Under 9’s taking the opportunity to attend swim and board
training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We were proud of all the Waverly Shield participants. For the first
time Under 9’s were able to enter Branch and State Carnivals and
we were proud of all of their efforts. Not only were we proud of their
performances in sand and water but their attitude and patience
between and during races. Both boys and girls cheered each other
on when it counted the most. State Carnival in particular came
with massive swell and the Under 9s were very brave to face these
conditions and give it their all at a beach with which they were not
familiar.
We were pleased to finish the season with some longer swims and
more board activities followed by our first-ever ramp swim!
UNDER 10 MAROON CAPS
Age Managers: Paul Wallace, Kellesi Gore, Stephen Gore, James
Odell, Gordon Hay, Mel Pyzik, Daryl Griggs, Alex Wilcox and
Richard Pearson
The Mighty Maroons had a great season, building strong friendships
and working well as a team. They supported each other and
celebrated everyone’s successes, even when they didn’t win.
This year, they focused on improving their ocean swimming skills.
Despite being fast on land and enjoying board activities, they were
hesitant about ocean swimming. However, with coaching and
support from the Water Safety team, they completed the ramp swim
by the end of the season. The group’s attitude and skills in ocean
swimming improved significantly, with many Maroon Caps citing
swim relays and rescues as their favourite session.
This age group achieved success at all competition levels, especially
excelling in relays on the sand. They welcomed new members
and saw three dads join the Water Safety team by obtaining their
Bronze Medallions. The group expressed gratitude to all the parents
involved in their Age Group.
UNDER 11 YELLOW CAPS
Age Managers: Gary Nissim, Jann Ashley, Kathryn Horner, Marc
Scardilli and Steve Johnston
As we bid farewell to another thrilling season, we’re proud to reflect
on the journey our Yellow Caps embarked upon.
This year witnessed an influx of fresh faces and despite the
challenges that come with acclimatising to a new sport, these
budding athletes showcased determination and a positive Bondi
attitude. Our established Nippers were, as we expected; always
welcoming and supportive.
Throughout the season, our young Nippers honed their skills and
embraced every opportunity for growth. Whether it was mastering
the board, perfecting their stroke, or timing a dive for the flags, each
task was met with aplomb. More than in prior years, this year our
children improved vastly, both in performance and attitude.
We can’t say that we’re the strongest team when it comes to
competing, but we can say we are when it comes to kindness,
happiness, and spirit. Beyond the competing lies the true essence
of this season – the bonds forged, the friendships formed, and most
importantly the personal goals achieved.
