NIPPERS
AGE MANAGER
REPORT
UNDER 6 RED CAPS
Age Managers: James Rogers, Marc Scardilli,
Jodie Odell, Jasone Zaballa and Tom Bodor
The first year of Bondi Nippers is always a special
time as it’s exciting to be down at the beach having
lots of fun and making friends. We had a fantastic
group this season with around forty Nippers
coming every Sunday.
Being in the Under 6’s there is always a mixture of
beach and water confidence levels but what was
great to see each week was every Nipper having
a go, trying and having fun. What we especially
loved to see throughout the season was how
the group came together to support each other,
especially in the water activities. When someone
was less confident to go in the water with the
waves alone, others held their hand or joined them
in going in together to give their fellow Nipper
support.
By the end of the season, we had the whole group
running in water, jumping in waves and coming
out with huge smiles. We also had lots of fun
learning flags and beach sprinting, as well as
understanding how to spot a rip, and of course
what to do with bluebottle stings!
It was great to see how the whole group had all
come together as friends and worked together to
support each other in building beach and water
confidence.
UNDER 7 PURPLE CAPS
Age Managers: Angus McFarlane, Gordon Hay,
James Owen, Fred Fafoutis and Lucy Spenceley
The Purple Caps made a smooth transition from
the U6 to U7 age group and continued to progress
by honing the skills they acquired throughout both
seasons. Our focus shifted towards developing
proficiency in handling watercraft, as the team
began catching waves using bodyboards with the
valuable assistance of our dedicated Water Safety
Team.
As the season progressed, we delved deeper
into refining our water skills, practising wading
in deeper waters and mastering the technique
of raising our knees while running in the water.
Additionally, we learned the art of diving under
larger waves, further enhancing our abilities in the
water.
UNDER 8 GREEN CAPS
Age Managers: Grant Baldock, Joy Pertile,
Jean-Paul Buhagiar, Stefano Redo, Stephanie
Manners, Lachlan Barber and Brooke O’Mara
Our Under 8’s have shown determination and
enthusiasm while mastering surf safety and
developing new skills in and out of the water
throughout the season.
They competed in Club Championship rounds
and Nipper Carnivals for the first time, forming
friendships, gaining confidence, and embracing
the beach lifestyle.
The Nippers and parents had a great time at the
South Maroubra Carnival and the Waverley Shield
Carnival, bringing home numerous medals.
The introduction of regular Thursday afternoon
board training proved beneficial, showcasing the
passion, willingness, and capability of our young
surf lifesavers.
Their undeniable improvement in board skills and
unwavering commitment inspires us to continue
providing them with the best opportunities.
