The 2023 Australian Pool Rescue Championships took place in early August
on the Gold Coast. After three full days of racing, the Bondi Masters team
defended the title they won last year. The team’s commitment and talent were
enough to hold off runners-up Tweed Heads & Coolangatta and third place
Metropolitan-Caloundra. Long Service Bondi Member and SLSA Life Member
Alan Seeney was tasked with presenting Championship Medals… his own Club
kept him busy.
The team brought home a total of eighteen Gold, seventeen Silver and
fourteen Bronze medals, five Australian records and one World record. That
is an impressive result for a small team of twelve. Everyone brought home a
medal or two. Congratulations to Dori Miller, Lisa Critoph, Di Wallace-Ward,
Alison Pegg, Laura Thurtell, Laura Manuel, Jo Delmodes and Juliann Desjardins
for their individual and relay Australian records. Dori Miller shaved just under
two-tenths of a second off the existing world record in the Female 50-54 years
100m Manikin Tow with Fins, finishing in 1:10.82.
Dori and Ethan Garland were selected to the NSW State team which placed
second in the interstate competition behind Queensland.
Thank you to Ethan who ran coaching sessions for the team.
The Bondi team continues to grow and improve in the pool rescue discipline
and is looking forward to the international competition at the World Lifesaving
Championships in August 2024.
