Bondi SBLSC 2023_24 Annual Report

GYM

REPORT

Following on from last year’s report, I wanted to start this entry with

another quote “I never regret it when I do it, but I always regret it when

I don’t!”

This quote has kept me training regularly throughout the season and is

a solid reminder that change is achievable, with a little effort.

This year, we parted ways with our old incline benches and purchased

new ones on the Black Friday sales from VULCAN, along with some new

Therabands as the old ones had reached the end of their stretch. We

also purchased a Slant Board to aid ankle/hip mobility and running plus

we received a donation of a Bosu Ball from Angus and Sarah Chard

and some Y-Bell weights from Kate Fitzpatrick. A big thank you for your

support.

It’s been good to see a few more members in the Gym regularly.

During the season we did a routine service of all equipment and

checked for safety of everything. Thank you to all Members for adhering

to the rules, looking after our equipment, keeping it safe, fun and

welcoming and notifying me of any maintenance needed throughout

the year.

ARCHIVES

REPORT

It was another great year, with several highlights and achievements.

Bondi SBLSC successfully obtained a Blue Plaque from the NSW

Government, under their Heritage Program. It states “ BONDI SURF

BATHERS LIFE SAVING CLUB – 1907 - Australia’s first Surf Lifesaving Club

established here”. The unveiling coincided with the Club’s largest

Member photo and was a fitting tribute to show that the Club has

grown to a position of strength from humble beginnings.

Club Member, Lisa Lennon has become the first independent

Director to join the Board of SLSNSW. This was quickly followed by an

announcement of Anna Booth as the second Director. Well done Lisa

and Anna.

The Bondi Pavilion newsletter (11/1) has an article on Bondi’s first female

Bronze squad. It’s well worth the read.

Peter Quartly was awarded the ‘Best of the Best in Waverley Councils

“Local Hero Awards”. A plaque commemorating this award was

installed on the promenade on the 16th May. Peter also spoke on “Black

Sunday” at the Waverley Historical Society’s July meeting.

Jenny Priestley of Wentworth Falls has provided some historical

memorabilia, for which we are grateful. Alexis Bell also provided

heritage items for our Archives.

Henry Bennett has provided archival material relating to Bill Bennett. Bill

was our President from 1918–1920 and 1926–1946.

The Bondi Story Room has added Tanya Jackson’s story to its list of

Club Members. The Room is a wonderful place to reminisce and look at

snippets of our contribution to Waverley’s rich history and its fabric, as

well as others in the Community.

The Museum Committee, under the Chairmanship of Scott Laney, with

Leo Hyde, Karen McAndrew, Margaret Miller, Peter Quartly and Geoff

Sumner, have not been as active as last season, due mainly to awaiting

the rebuilding program, however, it is keen to get moving, when the

building program is finalised.

Finally, we again ask if you have any memorabilia, photos or

documentation relating to the Club, please consider donating the items

to the Club. All such donations will be gratefully acknowledged.
