Sometimes the best way to revitalize yourself is to be completely unavailable and put
yourself in an island state of mind. It starts the second you embark a tiny ferry to a
remote island. Time ceases to exist. You escape the ties of everyday life and let the
sun, the wind and your immediate desires guide you through the day.
Our SS23 collection is a tribute to the simple island life. On an island you use what
you have on hand and live in harmony with nature and the elements.
A quiet sunny day can suddenly shift to heavy rain and wind. And vice versa.
You live more spontaneously and open-minded and that sparks your creativity. You
start to mix exclusive items with driftwood, stones and flowers from the surrounding
nature. It is easy to set up an outdoor kitchen or decorate the boathouse and turn it
into an extra bedroom. Soften up some stones in the garden with cushions to make
an extra sofa for an impromptu party. We love the atmosphere and mindset you get
when you allow life to be created by chance. Just for a while.
The combination of nature, the human mind and what we can do with our hands
is what makes island life so inspiring. This is also the signature of this collection
– natural materials, shaped by nature and made by hand. A collection of unique
items with traces from the hand or the tool that made it.
If you ever get the chance to answer what you would bring to a remote island,
the answer could be a suitcase full of things from the SS23 Collection by Madam
Stoltz. It has everything you need to fully enjoy slow living and island life.

Most companies are founded with a clear business idea and a strategy for growth.
Madam Stoltz started with a passion for India and as a means to finance Pernille’s
trips to the country she was falling deeply in love with.
Madam Stoltz is a family business founded by Peter Bundgaard and Pernille Stoltz.
In the early years we had a small shop in the Latin quarter of Copenhagen.
But our little company soon grew bigger. Wooden boxes delivered by the mailman
were replaced by large 40 feet containers delivered by ships, so we established a
temporary warehouse at Peter’s parents’ farm in Jutland and started selling B2B.
Fast forward some years to 1998 when our oldest daughter Amalie was born. Every
summer we visited Pernille’s home island Bornholm and felt relaxed and in balance.
What if we moved to Bornholm and established both family and business on the
island? So we did. While Pernille was busy running the creative development, Peter
joined full time and we started exporting to Sweden and Germany.
In 2001 our daughter Sarah entered the world, and our family was complete.
Later, a network of agents in new markets were added.
We opened our shop in Listed, Bornholm, hired our first employee – who is still part
of our team, and started attending international fairs with full scale stands. The first
fair Pernille attended; she could fit everything in her suitcase.
Our strategy has always been to have fun while constantly renewing – without
losing that special Madam Stoltz-spirit.
We look forward to continuing that way.

Every collection calls for a photo location that can capture the special feeling Pernille
is looking for. This year we packed the entire SS23 collection and jumped on the ferry to
Ertholmene – a small archipelago 18 kilometers northeast of Bornholm.
Two of its islands, Christiansø and Frederiksø, are inhabited and connected
by a 30-meter-long bridge. The permanent population is 89 people.
