GERMAN CULTURE IN COLORADO DIRECTORY
If history or exploring the Rockies is your
vibe, visit Schweiger Ranch in Lone Tree,
Douglas County, on your way to Colorado
Springs. Homesteaded in 1874 by Austrian
brothers, it’s now a historic landmark and
living history museum run by the Schweiger
Ranch Foundation. Enjoy free monthly
events, guided tours, nature walks, and
campfire series.
Next, head south on I-25 or take the back
roads to Garden of the Gods Park near
Colorado Springs. Discovered in 1859,
the park features stunning red, pink, and
white rock formations. Enjoy hiking, rock
climbing, horseback riding, biking, Segway
tours, and guided nature walks. Don’t miss
events like Falcon and Friends, Bird Watch,
or Insect Hike for Kids.
After exploring, drive 6.5 miles south
to Edelweiss Restaurant. Helga
Schnakenberg from Heidelberg and her
family have run this restaurant since
1969. Enjoy authentic German dishes
like Rahmschnitzel, Jaegerschnitzel,
Wienerschnitzel, Sauerbraten, and
Bratwurst in a charming setting. Don’t
forget to try their famous desserts or take
home some Torte and Kuchen for afternoon
Kaffee und Kuchen.
