Welcome to TLL’s first LASH MAGAZINE.

I have always wanted to make the lash industry greater and be an industry leader. I have created

the industry’s first lash mag. Designed to educate, share tips, promote talented artists in our

wonderful industry and spread brand awareness.

So take a look into the lash world ….

The industry has experienced insane growth, with a new generation of skilled lash artists and

entrepreneurs pushing the boundaries of artistry and excellence. The lash industry has

become a beacon of opportunity and inspiration for beauty enthusiasts around the world.

As a result of the rapid growth, the lash industry is evolving into a multi-million dollar market

that shows zero signs of slowing down. With an estimated value of over $1.5 billion, the lash

sector has become a significant player in the beauty industry, driven by increasing demand

for lash extensions and lash related products.

Handmade lashes are crafted on the spot during your appointment by your

artist. They are completely customisable to your needs and desires. Each fan is

created by hand, wrapped and applied precisely to each natural lash.

Many artists have voiced that they struggle with lash retention. Lash retention is like your

tweezers - there is an exact sweet spot for everything and once all is in line, you will find

your retention is BOMB.

TEMPERATURE

All adhesives have the recommended temperature listed somewhere, it’s crucial to have

your environment set at the right level in order for your adhesive to work at its best.

LASH RETENTION 101

As we all know there are many factors that can effect your works retention, here are my

biggest tips to the best lash retention:

Work with an adhesive that works with you! All adhesives have different drying times,

make sure you are using one that doesn’t cure in the time before you apply an extension.

Doing the correct prep for each client can affect your retention majorly. Always ensure you

have a clean base and avoid using primer on dry skinned clients - this will only strip their

natural lashes completely of all the oils, you only want to strip the excess oils.

The way extensions are applied needs to be perfect in order for them to last. Handmade

fans should be applied using the wrapping technique and pre made fans should only be

applied via the top or bottom for placement. Pre made lashes, if applied using the side

placement technique won’t hold for long as you haven’t used all the coverage you can to

bond the extension. Always ensure your fans are bonded using all the coverage at the

base, otherwise within a short time they will pop off.

Ensure you have enough glue on the base of the extension, I see many artists scared

to dip and only pick up a tiny amount of adhesive which will only hold for so long. You

don’t want to flood the extension but make sure your adhesive has 100% coverage

on the base of the extension.

Seriously educate lash aftercare to your clients, literally drill it into their mind.

Retention responsibilities is 50% artist and 50% client so ensure your clients

are well educated on all the aftercare guidelines.

Tiana owner and founder of ‘Lashed by Tiana’ is a qualified Melbourne

based lash artist. Tiana has been operating in the lash industry since

September 2022.

We asked Tiana a special question and her response is something that

all artists should listen to!

“What is one thing you would do differently if you were starting your

business again?”

“ One thing I wish I did differently was not comparing my beginner

self to other techs who have been in the industry for 5+ years, it

only took away my confidence instead of bringing it up. Definitely

wasn’t worth it.”

creativity and self expression, growing demand, job security and its ability to make a tangible

difference in people’s lives.

TIPS IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO:

Becoming a skilled lash artist is a process and it requires a few key things:

TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION

Complete a professional training program and obtain certification in lash extensions. Research

educators, what their courses cover and include and remember that who ever you train with - their

level of experience will determine the level of education you receive.

PRACTICE + PATIENCE

The art of lashes is not learnt overnight, it takes a lot of time to master. Develop your skills through

hands-on practice and be patient with yourself as you improve.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Lash artistry requires serious precision and attention to detail, lashing is such tedious work so ensure

you have the patience of a saint!

STEADY HANDS

You will need to be comfortable working with small objects and delicate application tools. Especially

working with sharp tweezers during the application process, your hands must be relaxed and able to

be steady and still.

CONTINUOUS EDUCATION

If you want to grow as an artist, you should always invest into further education. In such a fast growing

industry, it is important to stay updated on industry developments, new techniques and product

knowledge. So that first initial course you take, shouldn’t be the only one you complete!

ONGOING SELF-IMPROVEMENT

Being a lash artist also requires staying focused on refining your skills and delivering exceptional

results.

While becoming a skilled lash artist takes time and effort, the reward is a fulfilling and creative career

in the beauty industry.

“Empire of star lash and beauty is all about girl time. A safe space for the girly pops. I like to think of

myself as the big sister/bestie my clients have forever! I love giving not only the lashes and/or brows of

my clients dreams but also confidence in who they are as a person. I’m a proud Lashbox Brand Affiliate

and that was always a career dream of mine after using and stocking their products for quite some time.”

“Why did you want to become a lash artist?”

“I wanted to become a lash artist because I grew up being the girl in class who

was always told “this is a classroom not a beauty salon!” I was always doing

hair and make up and never lived without a lipgloss - I just loved all the ways

you could express yourself through those things.

After dropping out of a hairdressing traineeship in my early 20’s, moving 12

hours from where I grew up and having my son I found my way back to beauty

and like everything in my ADHD life I’m either hyper-fixated or not interested

so I eventually found I was obsessed with lashes and brows and needed to

know everything about them and that’s still to this current day, there’s not a

thing I don’t know or need to find out about anything lashes and brows which

is why I chose to specialise in my favourite things and I love how you can do

that these days!”
