COMMUNICATIONS
REPORT
The highlight of the 2023/24 season, in terms of media
and communications, was Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving
Club’s formal recognition as the oldest Lifesaving Club in
the world.
On Sunday 10th March 2024 hundreds of Members young
and old joined NSW Minister for Heritage Penny Sharpe
and Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos as they unveiled a
Blue Plaque on the pillar of our Clubhouse. The unveiling
was reported extensively in the media and featured in the
7News bulletin.
Other media mentions followed the tragic passing of
Louise Santos while on holiday in France, just two months
after becoming the Club’s first female Life Member.
Also the arrival of Santa at Bondi via IRB on his way to the
Christmas Parade at sponsor Westfield Bondi Junction.
The Surfer continues to be the Club’s main source of
communication with Members and supporters. The
various departments continue to provide valued, detailed
information each month. Thank you to everyone who
contributes, ensuring everyone associated with the
Club, whether they are down at the Bondi regularly or
not, can keep up-to-date with important events and
developments.
Communicating with our broader community,
recognising significant contributions, sharing our
challenges and celebrating our successes with all
stakeholders is important in keeping “our family” together
and connected.
New Members continue to subscribe to the Surfer.
There were a total of twelve long-format editions of the
newsletter produced and 24 briefs throughout the year
and each newsletter was delivered to more than 2500
people. Open rates remain above 50% which, given that
the average open rate for email communications is 21%,
demonstrates the importance of the Surfer in keeping
Members and supporters in touch with their Club family.
