Bondi SBLSC 2023_24 Annual Report

Bondi’s swim section continues to be a strong part of the

Club’s competition team.

Traditionally, Bondi has always had a strong swimming

contingent. Nothing has changed this year with solid

performances across a range of swimming events.

The highlights this year included a thrilling thirteen

second victory over North Bondi in the 82nd Stan and

Basil McDonald Relay; Toby Goldschmidt winning the

open surf race at the Sydney Branch Championships;

and Annabelle Paterson, Frankie Shires and Max Moylan

flying the flag in open surf race competition throughout

the season. Simon Nothling, Troy Stewart, Jeanette Brits,

Christie Krenkels and Carolyn Macauley picked up gold

medals in their age categories in the two kilometre ocean

swim at the Australian Championships.

Simon Nothling, Dori Miller, Lisa O’Donnell, Jeanette Brits

and Carolyn Macauley all won their age categories at

the Australian Championships.. Dori won her thirteenth

consecutive surf race title, no easy feat in this day and

age. Well done, Dori.

Jeanette Brits and Carolyn Macauley have the rare

opportunity to create their own piece of history by

completing what is known as the box set. Winning their

surf races at Sydney Branch Championships, NSW State

Championships and Australian Championships gives

them a shot at completing a quadruple of victories if they

can win golds a little later this year at the International

World Lifesaving Championships. Good luck.

At the Australian Championships, we had three winning

Masters Surf Teams. Our 130 years male team of Simon

Nothling, Troy Stewart and Mitch Dean brought home an

exciting gold medal as did our 150 years female team of

Samantha Wolf, Jeanette Brits and Christie Krenkels. Our

170 years surf team of Laura Thurtell, Lisa O’Donnell and

Di Wallace-Ward were also victorious.

Our Masters pool rescue team defended both the NSW

and Australian Champion point scores. Ethan Garland

and Dori Miller were selected to the NSW State team to

compete in the Interstate Championships. Dori Miller also

broke a world record in the 100m manikin tow with fins.

Two of our swim team members, Nathan Power and

Matt Byrnes have just been announced in the Aussie

Sharks Australian water polo team heading to the Paris

Olympics. We wish the boys well and look forward to

seeing them back in the blue and white once national

duties have concluded.
