EDUCATION
REPORT
The 2023/24 Season was one for the books. The
Education section saw incredible achievements
across all courses, with the entire section moving
from strength to strength throughout what has
been a very busy and rewarding year.
This has resulted in the delivery of five successful
Bronze Medallion groups as well as a Lightning
Bronze group, more than 60 Advanced
Resuscitation Techniques awards and a
record number of IRB Crew and Driver awards.
Furthermore, we have had several Members
complete their Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue
qualifications and Silver Medallion Patrol Captain
courses and have seen some Members attain and
re-attain their Gold Medallions.
The significant achievements made this season
would not have been possible without the efforts of
an incredible Board of Education and a dedicated
and supportive network of Trainers, Assessors and
Facilitators.
I would like to thank Olivier Brisse our Deputy
Director of Education, Thomas Hough and Lina
Lygdback our Bronze Co-ordinators, Ronny Krite
our IRB Training Coordinator, Marissa Saunders our
Higher Awards Coordinator and Jonathan Potts
our Proficiency Manager for their ongoing effort
which made for another successful season.
On a final note, I would like to congratulate Marissa
Saunders on being awarded the 2023/24 Facilitator
of the Year at the Branch Awards of Excellence
and the entire IRB Training Team for taking home
the 2023/24 Services Team of the Year award.
Congratulations and thank you to all who have
made an impact on the Education section this
season.
Next year we will be seeking to:
•
Maintain a minimum of five Bronze courses and
a Lightning Bronze course.
•
Continue developing our Trainer’s Pathway and
encourage more junior and probationary TAFs
to complete their Training Officer certification.
•
Continue to increase the number of ART and
IRB Trainers and Assessors to ensure we are
able to run more of these courses and provide
needed skills to our patrols.
•
Identify and encourage more of our
experienced Trainers to undertake their
Assessor qualifications, which are run at a State
level.
It was an incredible season, to say the least. Thank
you again to all who assisted or supported the
training that ensures “no lives lost” at Bondi.
