Life Member Keiran Speed joined Bondi SBLSC in 1959 gaining his Bronze

Medallion in 1961. He achieved 60 year Long Service in 2019.

Keiran was awarded Life Membership to Bondi SBLSC in 1987.

Keiran distinguished himself through competition, lifesaving and his friendly

demeanour. Keiran’s attitude and embodiment of the Club’s surf lifesaving

values continue to inspire Club Members to be their best.

Born and raised in Bondi, Bondi Surf Club has played a huge part in Keiran’s

life.

Keiran joined the Club as a junior in 1958, and over the years has competed in

R&R, surf boats, surf teams, beach sprints, Stan MacDonald relays, surf races

and many NSW State and Australian Surf Titles.

Keiran’s surf lifesaving achievements include-

Gold in the Junior R&R at the Australia titles in 1963

Silver in the open beach relay (over 45) at the Australian titles in 1987

Gold in the open surf teams at the Australia titles in 1993

Gold in the 1km beach run (over 70), at Branch, State and Australian titles

in 2017

Silver in the 1km beach run (over 70) at the World Lifesaving Titles 2018

Gold in the 1km beach run (over 70) at State and Silver at the Australian

titles in 2019

Keiran has held many committee positions over the years and served as Bondi

SBLSC Vice President in 1986/87.

Always encouraging peak performance, Keiran instituted the ‘Tama runs’

in the 1960s to increase Club Member participation in fitness activities and

increase Club camaraderie. He conceptualised the Bondi Surf Club’s annual

Veterans lunch, a much anticipated event that both honours and fosters

continued connection among our veteran lifesavers.

Keiran was part of the Bondi SBLSC relay team that ran from Sydney to

Melbourne in 1970, which took thirteen days. He was given the honour to carry

the baton from the starting line at Sydney Town Hall.

Keiran was a member of the “BREMS”, Bondi’s Regular Early Morning

Swimmers, a group of loyal mates who enjoy the best Bondi has to offer each

morning as the sun rises.

A versatile sportsman; Keiran along with Club Member and Rugby League

legend John Peard, played for Bondi United and then transferred to Rugby

Union playing over 50 games for Easts, winning a 1st grade premiership in

1969. Keiran is also a life member of Easts Rugby Union Club and an Honorary

Life Member of the Bondi Icebergs.

As well as all his magnificent achievements Keiran was the best and loyal

friend to many Bondi SBLSC members and will be missed by all at Bondi.
