The Care Home Designer Ltd
Product
overview
People are motivated by many things, but
it’s feedback that fuels our efforts to do
the very best we can, to always look for
improvements and be open to ways we
might be more helpful.
In fact, the value of feedback can’t be
understated - it’s our opportunity to learn.
It’s nothing less than an absolute
pleasure to work alongside providers of
residential care and the lovely people
we meet in and around the homes.
But our greatest satisfaction
is hearing that our products
have been helpful or
provided some pleasure.
“I must say
the Wall art is
absolutely amazing,
now we have the
residents door signage
the home is going to be
looking very up with the
Dementia times.”

If you’re a new or
existing client, please
keep in touch. We can’t
do this without you.
Presenting this brochure is our chance to show you
what we do. By engaging with the people we serve,
we aim to provide ever-improving support for
people living in residential care, particularly when
dementia is intent on disrupting their daily life.
However big or small, it's a privilege to know our
work makes a difference.
I can’t tell you how
happy I am with it,
it’s simply amazing.

The Care Home Designer Ltd
We design Communication Displays
with the same approach we use for other
forms of signage that need to be useable
by everyone and supportive for people
with interpretation issues common
with dementia.
This means using correct forms of
type, appropriate colour contrast,
non-reflective surfaces and ensuring
content is uncluttered, clear and concise.
We have four standard products covering
Menu’s, Orientation (to time, day and
date) Activities and Staff teams.

Like all our in-house manufactured
products, what we refer to as ‘standard’ is
anything but, such that displays may be
highly customised to the requirements of
the home and residents.
A good example is Staff displays where
every home has a different number of
people to represent, roles are varied
and where the people on duty is
constantly changing.
To this end, every display is treated as a
bespoke requirement and made to the
customer‘s specification.
Whatever your particular
needs, we’ll make a
display just for you.

But they also play a key role in creating a great
first impression as well as communicating to
your target audience for marketing, events and
recruitment or simply broadcasting the
services your home provides.
Alongside our bespoke design and
manufacturing service, we offer installation
when required and our experienced installers
are fully conversant with the particular
requirements of working in and around a
residential care home.
This means remembering at all times that
we are working in someone’s home and
respecting everyone’s safety, comfort and
privacy at all times.
External signs and
graphics are an
essential part of the
business, helping
visitors and
emergency services
find your property
more easily.

It’s probably fair to say only teenagers
‘live’ in their bedroom so when it
comes to the language of care, we
need to be mindful of how words can
make us feel. To this end we refer to
residents’ ‘Rooms’ rather than their
bedroom. A place that should feel like
home, not something temporary
where they’re just visiting.
‘Home’ should be a place of safety, a
haven, somewhere to be yourself, and
when someone wants to go to their
home we provide help to find it with
minimal stress.
Our signs are designed to support
people to navigate their environment
as independently and confidently as
possible. Even when they‘re escorted,
it’s still important to know where they
are going, and when they’ve arrived.
Our designs can be customised to
allow the flexibility to use colours and
contents that are accurate and
compliment and contrast any given
environment, making them attractive
and easier to locate.
Contents are clear, visible and
concise, avoiding clutter and
ambiguity. Arguably, the most
important sign is the resident’s
Room sign, hence the importance
of personalisation to make it
uniquely identifiable, welcoming
and reassuring.
Internal signs
Our products are safe, secure,
fire-rated, smart and dignified such
that with the right choice of colour
they will compliment any care
environment and won’t look out
of place in any setting.

AL (anti-ligature) Signs
Under certain circumstances, we need
to make additional considerations
where safety is concerned. This
prompted the development of an AL
version of our standard sign products.
Like the standard signs, the AL design
has essentially the same appearance, is
supplied in two parts.
AL signs are thicker at 12mm overall
The back section is securely fixed flush
to the wall or door with countersunk
screws. The fascia secures to the back
panel with clear polycarbonate screws
concealing the wall fixings. The result is
a very secure sign with no sharp edges,
corners or gaps.
Otherwise, the content is the same as
our standard designs and can be used
for Bedroom, Directional and Room
Designation signs as required.

Memory Boxes
18 years ago, I designed a Memory Box for
Bupa. The design became a standard in
countless homes looking to improve their
dementia care.
For TCHD, one of my objectives was to bring
the Memory Box design up to date and this is
the result.
The NEW design is all about the contents,
not the box and we’ve been field-testing
them for two years.
Everyone loves them and agree
they’re a great improvement on
anything previously available.
As it’s now effectively frameless, though the
footprint is the same, the capacity has
increased by 40% and the contents are 100%
more visible, even from the side!
As a means to support room recognition when filled
fire safety standards.
