Join us for a celebration of Jamaica's
Emancipation and Independence! We
are
thrilled
to
welcome
the
internationally acclaimed dub poet
Malachi Smith and Jamaican-Canadian
Educator, Poet, and Actor Prof. Canute
Lawrence,
who
will
share
their
powerful works. The morning will also
feature a cameo appearance by PP
Lowell who will share his most
inspiring National Festival Song.
At our last meeting, we were fortunate to have Jeanette Calder
enlighten us on the vital work of the Jamaica Accountability Meter
Portal (JAMP). Jeanette detailed how JAMP promotes transparency
and accountability in Jamaica by tracking the performance of public
officials and institutions. Her insightful presentation highlighted
the importance of citizen engagement in holding leaders
accountable and fostering good governance. It was an inspiring
session that underscored our commitment to supporting initiatives
that drive positive change in our community.

Rtns Nicola and Michael share their
favorite Freedom Fighter tribute and
iconic Marley tune. And just when you
think the morning couldn’t get any better
—if you’re lucky—you might catch your
president channeling the legendary Miss
Lou! But of course, a performance like
that doesn’t come cheap; you’ll have to
pay dearly for the privilege! So, bring
your laughter, your love for Jamaica, and
a few dollars for a one-of-a-kind
meeting of Voices Full of Freedom.
A Legacy of Service and Dedication
Remembering Rtn Carlton
Rtn Carlton Scott, a true embodiment of the
Rotary spirit and a dedicated public servant,
became a proud member of the Rotary Club
of New Kingston on August 11, 2003. From the
very
beginning,
he
demonstrated
an
unwavering commitment to the ideals of
Rotary, actively participating in the club's
various initiatives and projects.
Over the years, Rtn Carlton held several key
positions
within
the
club,
contributing
significantly to its growth and success. His
leadership, guidance, and tireless efforts were
instrumental in advancing the club's mission
of service above self. Whether it was
organizing community outreach programs,
mentoring new members, or championing the
club's causes, Rtn Carlton’s impact was felt
across all facets of the Rotary Club of New
Kingston.

Rtn Carlton Scott’s legacy is one of humility,
service, and a deep-seated passion for making
a difference. His contributions to the Rotary
Club of New Kingston have left an enduring
impact, and his example continues to inspire
Rotarians both within the club and beyond. As
we reflect on his journey, we honor not just the
positions he held, but the values he lived by
and the lives he touched through his service.
IIn the midst of life, there is death, but the
converse is also true: in the midst of death,
there is life. Death is but a brief sleep that
ushers us into a new life of enriching
fellowship with our Maker. The Rotary family
extends its deepest sympathies to Rtn Carlton's
daughter and other relatives. May the light of
God's love and comfort surround them as they
navigate life here on earth without Rtn Carlton.
May God welcome Rtn Carlton into eternal rest,
where peace and joy abound.

Remembering Rtn Carlton
Dear Rotary Club of New Kingston
It is with great sadness that I learned of
the passing of your dear member,
Rotarian Carlton Scott. Although his
frailty and ill health led him to become
an Honorary Rotarian and prevented him
from attending meetings, his attachment
to and interest in Rotary remained
constant until the end of his life.
Before his retirement, Carlton served with
dedication as a protocol officer in the
service of the Governor General of
Jamaica, a career that reflects his sense
of duty and commitment to public
service. His presence and involvement in
Rotary, even from afar, enriched our
organization.

the members of the New Kingston club, as well
as to Carlton Scott's family and loved ones. His
loss is a shared sorrow for all of us, and we join
you in honoring his memory and service.
May you find comfort in remembering the
lasting impact he had on our Rotarian
community and in the lives of those he
touched. My thoughts and prayers are with you
during this difficult time.
With all my Rotarian affection

A ROTARIAN'S HEART
In August's light, he joined our fold,
A heart of service, brave and bold.
With each role he took, his passion grew,
Guiding us all with a vision true.
He saw the spark in Rose-Marie’s eyes,
Nurturing her to rise and rise.
His legacy, now firmly set,
In every life his actions met.
Carlton Scott, a name we hold dear,
His spirit lives on, year after year.
In service and love, we carry his light,
A Rotarian’s heart, ever burning bright.
BUILDING BACK BETTA
THE PLEA CONTINUES

The Club launched its Book N’ Bag Drive with the intent to
support the children of Fullerswood and Mountainside
Primary Schools in St Elizabeth. This year, we want to
double our efforts to ensure that these children have
uniforms, bag books and other tools to be able to have
some semblance of normalcy in returning to school
come September.
We can’t do it without your kind contributions. We are
asking each Rotarian and friend to help us to help those
children by contributing a Bright Bag with back-to-
school supplies or donate cash that we will use to
purchase the supplies. You may drop your bag off at
EDNA at 1 Arthur Wint Drive or at Suite 27 Winchester
Business Centre, 15 Hope Road; or simply call President
Dorrett @ 876-595-5088 and she will arrange to pick up
from you.
The Club is partnering with the Ministry of Education and
Youth to rehabilitate the Fullerswood Primary and Infant
School, in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. The school, a
cornerstone
of
the
community,
needs
significant
restoration to ensure a safe and conducive learning
environment for the students. This project underscores our
commitment to supporting education and community
resilience.
The scope of work involves repairing sections of the roof
of the main classroom building as well as the infant
department, and replacing six 1000-gallon-water tanks.
Our efforts will also include providing new learning
materials and resources to replace those lost in the
hurricane.
We encourage all members to participate in the repair
efforts, whether through hands-on work, donations, or
spreading the word. Together, we can ensure that the
children return to school on September 2.

Last year’s winners of the Quantity vs Quality debate
Get ready for an unforgettable afternoon, as the
Rotary Club of New Kingston gears up for our first
major Lyme BIZ of the Rotary Year 2024-25. Join
us at the iconic EDNA on Sunday, August 18, 2024,
at 3:00 PM, where we’re serving up our business
agenda with generous helpings of games, music,
dance, and laughter. Whether you're strategizing,
socializing, or showing off your best moves on the
dance floor, there’s something for everyone.
Yes, PP Lloyd, Lyme BIZ is the very same gathering
you fondly referred to as the Club Forum, but with
a fresh twist for the new Rotary year. Our main
agenda item? Unveiling our bold plans to align
with District Goals and to maintain our position as
THE Irresistible Club of the District. We’re aiming
high, and we want every member's input as we
chart the course for an extraordinarily magical
year of service, fellowship, and impact.
