Personal Space

More crime is being commied by people who invade your personal space, like the Huggers,

or those who stop you and ask for informaon or direcons. Oen this will result in a third party

robbing you.

The term “personal space” generally refers to the physical distance between

,

two people in a social

family, or

. Think of your personal space as the air between your body and an

work environment

invisible shield, or bubble, you have formed around yourself for any relaonship. Most people have

a certain distance they like to keep from others, depending on the relaonship.

It is important to be aware of what your limits are and to take acon if they are compromised.

The comfortable space between you and

will probably be much smaller

someone you know well

than it would be if you barely knew the other person. With a stranger, it is even greater.

Average comfort levels of personal space distance is more than 4 feet for strangers.

What to Do if Someone Invades Your Personal Space

When someone gets uncomfortably close to you, there are several things you can do.

Ways to deal with space intrusion:

·A ccept it.

Lean away from the person

· or take a step back, hoping he or she will take the hint.

·C ome right out and say you are uncomfortable being so close

If the stranger persists then call out to alert others to the situaon.

Just being aware of your tolerances re personal space can make the difference between a crime

being commied and no crime..
