WHY AND HOW TO
PROMOTE
SUSTAINABILITY?
SAVE OUR
PLANET
Sustainability means taking care of the Earth so that it can continue to provide us with
everything we need like air, water, food, and shelter, for a very long time. There are three main
ways that people think about sustainability: anthropocentrism, technocentrism, and
ecocentrism.
ALL OF THESE WAYS OF THINKING ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY ARE IMPORTANT,
BUT THEY HAVE DIFFERENT IDEAS ABOUT WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO TAKE CARE OF.

ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
NATURE IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT CAN HELP
US SOLVE PROBLEMS AND MAKE OUR WORLD A
BETTER PLACE. THERE ARE MANY THINGS WE CAN
LEARN FROM NATURE THAT CAN HELP US CREATE
JOBS, BECOME STRONGER, AND EVEN HELP WITH
THE PROBLEM OF CLIMATE CHANGE.?
UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN
VIEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY
ANTHROPOCENTRISM
means that people think humans are the most important things on Earth, and that taking care of people is
the most important part of sustainability.
TECHNOCENTRISM
means that people think new technology and inventions are the most important thing to help take care of
the Earth.
ECOCENTRISM
means that people think the most important thing is to take care of the natural world, like animals, plants,
and the environment, so that everything can continue to live together in balance.
Socio-economic models are like ways of doing
things that people use to make sure everyone has
enough and everything is taken care of. They are
built upon diferent values and principles that help
us to be fair to everyone, take care of the
environment, make decisions together, use
resources carefully, and come up with new and
better ways of doing things. These models are
important because they help us to make sure that
everyone is happy and healthy now and in the
future!

A EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL -
STRIVING TO BE THE FIRST
CLIMATE-NEUTRAL
CONTINENT
There are some big problems happening to the
Earth. It's getting too warm and we're not taking
good care of the environment. This is a big deal
for Europe and for the whole world. To fx these
problems, the people in Europe have made a plan
called the European Green Deal. This plan will
help make Europe a better place to live. It will
make sure that we stop putting too much
pollution into the air by the year 2050, that we use
our resources in a smart way, and that everyone in
Europe is taken care of. This means we will have a
clean and safe environment, a strong economy,
and everyone will be happy and healthy!
POLICY AREAS OF THE
EU GREEN DEAL
Transforming the EU’s economy for a sustainable
future.
Sometimes people do things that can hurt nature, like
cutting down trees or polluting the air and water. Other
times, people try to do things that don't hurt nature, like
recycling or using renewable energy. And sometimes,
people can do things to make nature even better, like
planting trees or cleaning up trash. The way people think
about nature and what they believe is important can
infuence the choices they make about how to treat it..
THE IMPACT OF HUMAN ACTION ON THE ENVIRONMENT
CHANGES ACCORDING TO THE VALUES THAT DRIVE IT
The Litter Less Campaign is a program that helps kids learn about why litter and waste are bad for the
environment. They teach students how to be more aware of the impact they have on the environment and how
they can help reduce litter and waste. They also encourage kids to make choices that help save the Earth's
resources. The program is run by two groups called the Foundation for Environmental Education and the Mars
Wrigley Foundation, and they have been doing this since 2011
THE REUSE REVOLUTION IS HERE
For years, corporations and retailers have blamed each other for the plastic waste polluting our world. But it’s
time for them to work together to create something beautiful—refllable and reusable systems to deliver their
products and a world free from plastic pollution
LITTER LESS CAMPAIGN
Sustainability means taking care of the Earth so that we can keep
living on it for a long time. We can do this by using things wisely, like
turning of the lights when we leave a room or using a reusable
water bottle instead of a plastic one that we throw away. Diferent
people might think that taking care of the Earth is very important,
or they might not think it's as important. It depends on what they
believe is right and good.
GENERATIONAL AND CULTURAL FACTORS INFLUENCE
THE IMPORTANCE GIVEN TO SUSTAINABILITY
THE GENERATION THAT CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
IF WE LET THEM
In the future, the world might not be as good as it is now. There are
problems like climate change, where the weather gets really bad
and causes damage to everything, and not everyone gets treated
fairly. It can be hard to believe that things will get better, but a
report by the United Nations says that young people, like kids your
age, can help make the world a better place when they grow up.
They have new ideas and ways of thinking that can make the world
a happier and safer place for everyone. So, we can be hopeful and
optimistic that the future will be brighter because of these young
people.
THE MOST AND LEAST GREEN COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD
Being 'green' means taking care of the world around us and making sure we
don't hurt the Earth or the things that live on it. Scientists have looked at many
countries to see which ones do a good job of taking care of the environment
and keeping people healthy, and they ranked them from the best to the worst.
IN RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE, CITIZENS IN
ADVANCED ECONOMIES ARE WILLING TO ALTER
HOW THEY LIVE AND WORK
Some young adults in certain places are more willing than older
adults to change the way they live to help make the planet healthier
and safer for everyone.
When people want things like food, toys, or clothes, they might take too much from nature without thinking
about how it can hurt the environment. This can happen when people are too focused on getting what they
want for themselves, and they forget to think about how it can afect the animals and plants that live around
us. When we take too much from nature, it can make it hard for animals and plants to survive, and that's not
good for anyone.
CONSUMER SOCIETY - SUSTAINABILITY |
ACCIONA
Today, we can buy all kinds of things to make our
lives better. But when some people buy too much
of these things, it can hurt the Earth by using up
important resources. That's why we need to think
about how much we buy and how it afects the
world around us..

SUSTAINABILITY
PERSONAL VALUES DIFFER
ACCORDING TO ONE’S
POSITION IN SOCIETY
Sustainability means taking care of the Earth so that it
stays healthy and beautiful for a very long time. The way
we take care of the Earth is infuenced by how we live
our lives and what we think is important. Sometimes,
people who have more money and power don't take
care of the Earth as well as they should because they
only think about themselves and what they want right
now. But we can all help take care of the Earth by being
kind and making choices that will keep the Earth
healthy for a long, long time.
WHAT DO I CARE FOR?
SOCIAL VALUES OF YOUNG PEOPLE COMPARED
HOW COUNTRIES AROUND THE
WORLD VIEW DEMOCRACY,
MILITARY RULE AND OTHER
POLITICAL SYSTEMS
A group of people asked many other people from 38
diferent countries how they like to run their country. They
found out that most people think having a government
where the people choose who will make decisions is a good
way. However, some people in some countries also think
other ways of running a government could be good too.
When people are young, they often care a lot about being fair, helping others, and making the world a better place. But
as they get older, they might start to care more about taking care of themselves and their families. This can be infuenced
by things like their job or how much money they have. So, it's important to remember that people's values can change as
they get older, and we need to understand and support young people in their unique experiences and backgrounds.
YOUTH IS AN AGE
EFFECT
PROTECTING NATURE IS
A PRIORITY FOR BOTH
CURRENT AND FUTURE
GENERATIONS
Protecting nature means taking care of plants, animals,
and places like forests, oceans, and mountains. We
need to protect nature because it gives us many things
we need like clean air, water, and food.
Being ethical means doing what's right and fair. It's like
being a good friend and sharing toys with others.
Protecting nature is an ethical thing to do because it's
fair to the plants and animals to let them live and grow
just like we do.
Justice means treating everyone fairly. When we
protect nature, we are also being fair to future
generations of people and animals who will want clean
air, water, and food just like we do now. So it's
important to protect nature not only for ourselves but
for everyone who will come after us.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND THE PRESERVATION OF
NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS
Environmental justice means that everyone should be treated fairly and equally when it comes to taking care of the
environment. Just like how we share toys with our friends and take turns playing games, we need to share and take care
of the environment with everyone else too. This includes animals and plants that live in the environment too. It's
important to make sure that everyone has access to clean air, water, and land to live in, and that we work together to keep
the environment healthy and safe for everyone to enjoy
WHAT IS BIODIVERSITY?
Biodiversity is a complex term that tries to explain how the variety of diferent lifeforms in an ecosystem interact. Find
out more about how biodiversity works in this video!
WHAT IS
BIODIVERSITY?
PRESENT-DAY BENEFITS OF
PRESERVING NATURE FOR
FUTURE GENERATIONS
Preserving nature means taking care of plants,
animals, and everything else in the world around us.
It's important to do this because nature is really cool
and beautiful, and we want to make sure that it stays
that way for a long time.
When we take care of nature, we help to make sure
that all of the animals and plants can continue to live
in their homes and grow big and strong. This is
important because they are all part of a big team that
helps to keep our world healthy and happy.
When we go outside and explore nature, we can learn
a lot of new things and have fun adventures. So, we
want to make sure that we can keep doing this for a
long time. That's why it's important to take care of
nature and all of the living things in it, so that we can
enjoy them and they can continue to be a part of our
world.
“52. Investing in younger generations will deliver
crucial returns for those alive today, but the complex
problems that we face will unfold over multiple
lifespans. Today’s decisions on issues such as climate,
technology and development will profoundly alter the
livelihoods of the 10.9 billion people who are expected
to be born later this century, predominantly in Africa
and Asia.”
NOT EVERYONE HAS THE
SAME MEANS OF
PROMOTING
SUSTAINABILITY
Diferent people and groups try to take care of the
environment in diferent ways. Some people have more
resources and can do more things, like recycling, using less
water, or using clean energy. Other people may not have
as many resources, but they can still help by doing small
things like picking up litter or turning of lights when
they're not using them. It's important for everyone to do
what they can to take care of the environment, no matter
how big or small
