From the vibrant streets of India to the tranquil island of Bornholm – it is safe to say
that Madam Stoltz is a company fueled by contrasts. Madam Stoltz has been selling
interior design products for more than 25 years, allowing Indian craftsmanship and
Nordic simplicity to come together in a magical fusion.
Madam Stoltz is an independent, family-run business founded by Pernille Stoltz and
Peter Bundgaard.
The story of Madam Stoltz began in 1997, when Pernille first travelled to India on a
journey of exploration. She fell deeply in love with the country and its people. Upon
her return she and Peter opened a shop in Copenhagen with handpicked homewares
brought back from India.
But the small business grew bigger. Wooden boxes delivered by the mailman were
soon replaced by 40 feet containers delivered by ships. To keep up with growing
demand, the company ventured into B2B. Later, Pernille and Peter left the bustling
big city life in search of rural adventures on Bornholm, Pernille’s birthplace. Since
then, the company has continued to expand, and our items are now sold all over
the world.
Our boho roots still permeate everything we do. Madam Stoltz’ ethos centers around
celebrating artisan traditions preserved through generations. What sets us apart are
the close-knit relationships we have built up over the past 25 years with artisans and
suppliers, who we consider family.
At the heart of our company is a passion for interior design made by hand and
with consideration for the planet. Our collections feature a large selection of pieces
crafted from planet-friendly materials. We work closely with our teams in India to
incorporate recycled materials and we repurpose preloved items. In recent years,
we have cut down packaging considerably and have almost eliminated our use
of plastic.
Thank you supporting us so we can continue to do what we love.

Madam Stoltz’ head office is located in the middle of the Baltic Sea on the small island of
Bornholm, Pernille’s birthplace. Before each photoshoot, Pernille scouts the island for the
perfect location. This time around she was looking for a place that could evoke the feeling
of seeking refuge. Once she visited ‘Kastellet’, a citadel part of the island’s fortification in
Rønne, the search was done. The design of ‘Kastellet’ resembles the medieval round churches
that are distinctive to Bornholm. The rustic whitewashed walls provide a perfect backdrop
for our AW23 collection and allow the pieces to take centre stage.
