Tingari: the great ancestors
Tingari is the aborigines’ name for the great sacred ancestors from whom they have received the law
of dreams. A fresh green fragrance spreads like an invitation to summer in the Tingari collection
of scented candles and Totem diffusers. Colorful bubbles of green, brown and blue filaments,
reminiscent of landscapes, stand out on dark turquoise hand-blown glass. The candles and Totem
diffusers become precious objects and pieces of art to be displayed in any interior.
Although Oceania is not a continent in the true sense of the word, it encompasses vast bodies
of water and land between Asia and America. Oceania’s largest territory is Australia. The Oceania
collection, whose hand-blown glass forms random, oval designs, subtly recalls the idea of territories
in the middle of vast oceans, as well as the contemporary graphics of Aboriginal art.
We’ve given the candles and Totem diffusers in this collection Aboriginal names, each with their own
special meaning. Each candle was photographed in front of original Aboriginal artworks lent to us by
Nicolas Andrin, an Aboriginal art expert in Paris. His gallery at 46 rue de Seine is a treasure trove,
and we’d like to both pay tribute to him and thank him for letting us photograph the works of the
artists he represents in his gallery. We hope that this candlelit exhibition will inspire art collectors
to find out more and join us in the admiration of an artform that is still too little known, part
of a tribal heritage that must be preserved. It often discusses dream time, and the time of creation.
